Intro to Ami Paris x PUMA, SS2022.

Alexandre Mattiussi and Arthur Robert of Ami Paris had an inspiring vision for our collaboration collection; to clash the elegant world of modern dance with PUMA’s heritage in streetwear during the 1970’s, and to celebrate “The Art of Movement”. We celebrate refined tailoring, impeccable fits and creating credible pieces, staying true to both brands’ values. Thoughtful, wearable pieces in an array of vivid colours express feelings of joy and inclusivity, symbolic to modern dance and PUMA’s ethos.

The colour and materials selection was where the collection came to life. The initial exploration came from the Ami team when working with materials and layering textures, which then naturally led to the colour inspiration. Engraved buttons and cord ends in brushed-metal trims, along with elegant embroideries helped to merge our brandings together effortlessly. Graphic Design and execution by Juliette Delforge.

The refined details are what makes the product most beautiful. I worked out the details via technical CAD sketches, and shown below are a few examples of the collection’s technicalities. CAD drawings by Michelle Riley.

The complete collection in hand-sketched form, by Michelle Riley, showing multiple outfit combinations.

The seam-sealed, bonded 3L coat (pictured in tan and red, far left and center right) is a stand-out item with engraved buttons down the front and welt pockets with intricate top-stitching. The crinkle nylon coat is another special item, with off-white embroidered top-stitching and a hood with a thick cotton cord (pictured in green and black, far left and far right). Asia-specific workwear pieces were designed credibly in a heavy cotton twill with various pocketings (pictured center left and center right in blue and tan). The sports bra in recycled polyester subtly suggests sport in an elegant way with thin straps and a secure bottom band (pictured under 3L coat), and the wide leg pants, wide-leg shorts, hoodies, tee’s and jacquarded polos are made for everyone, based in recycled cotton compositions and paired with a 2x2 cotton rib.
